Bunk 1 Frequently
Asked Questions
How do I send a Bunk Note (one-way email) to my camper?
Follow the instructions above except, after registering, simply
sign in and click on the Bunk Notes button. Enter your camper’s
name, select the correct cabin, type your message, and hit the
“Send” button.
When does my child receive their Bunk Note?
Bunk Notes are distributed during Lunch, as an example if you the
parent/guardian sent a Bunk Note on Monday, the camper would receive
the Bunk Note on Tuesday in the afternoon. Notes cannot be
delivered on the day campers will be departing.
For full-week programs,
notes can be sent Sunday thru Wednesday and will be delivered Monday
thru Thursday. Notes cannot be delivered on Fridays. For
Pioneer A sessions, notes can be sent on Sundays and will be
delivered on Monday. For Pioneer B sessions, notes can be sent
on Wednesday and will be delivered on Thursday.
Why do I have to pay to send Bunk Notes (one-way email)?
Each morning, the Bunk Notes system bundles and sorts the
messages for us to print out and distribute to campers. It also
protects us from computer viruses and allows us to easily manage
these emails. Your payment helps us cover the cost of the system,
paper, ink, and labor and, more importantly, frees us to do what we
do best – be with your kids! Bunk Note credits cost $1 each and are
purchased in packs of various sizes.
Can other relatives use these services?
Certainly. Once you have set up your account, you will be able
to invite other people to access these services.
What do I do if I lost my username and password?
You can get it online by going to
www.Bunk1.com and clicking on the link "Lost Your Password?" (to
the left of the page below the sign in button). You will receive an
email with your username and password within a few minutes.
Who do I call If I
have questions / problems?
Please call Bunk1 at 1-800-216-9472 or go to
www.bunk1.com.
Mission
Project Information
This summer we will learn
how to “Reflect God”. One way we can Reflect God in the world is to
learn what we can do to provide hunger relief for our neighbors both
near and far. During the week each camper will have an opportunity
to donate money to the 2010 Mission Project, ELCA Good Gifts:
Project Ark during their last canteen stop or on Friday at Closing
Worship. The money will be used to buy food and animals to feed
people in many parts of our world.
In addition, this summer
we will begin partnering with farmers to provide local food at our
camp tables. We know that by supporting our local farmers we are
also supporting our communities and helping to relieve hunger
locally.

Camp Store Information
The Camp Store (or
“Tuck Shop” for those at Waypost) is generally open twice daily
for campers to purchase soda, candy, healthy snacks, ice cream
and clothing.
When you get to camp
you will be able to visit the Camp Store to add money to your
account. You can save time at registration by adding
money to your account ahead of time with our Appleton Office. Sending your canteen money ahead of time with your final payment
saves time when you're checking in at camp. You can also
call us at 920-882-0023 to add money by Credit Card. Money
left on your account is refunded at the end of the week.
Campers may not keep cash in their cabins.
Campers are limited
in the amount of food items purchased at each visit and leftover
money will be refunded at the end of the week. 1/2 week
campers should not need more than $10 for snacks. Full
week campers should not need more than $20 for snacks. Campers
may not keep any food items in their cabins.
Campers also have the
opportunity to purchase other camp gear - t-shirts, sweatshirts,
blanket, water bottle, etc. (T-shirts ~$10-15, Sweatshirts
~$18-25) You can add money for these purchases on
your Camp Store account ahead of time or at camp. The Camp
Store will also be open when parents drop off and pick up their
campers!

FAQ for Parents
Can my
child and his or her friends be in the same cabin?
We're delighted
that your child is bringing his or her friends to camp! We want
the camp experience to be as fun as possible, so we will do
everything we can to accommodate cabin mate requests for campers
registered in the same program. Please
note though, that we cannot guarantee all requests, especially
if more than one friend has been listed.
Back to FAQ.
How safe
are the camps?
Our camps have an excellent reputation as safe and healthy
environments. Our staff is carefully chosen (including a background
check) and trained to provide a safe environment for your child. You
can help make this a wonderful experience for them too! The
2010 Health Form MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE CAMP for every
camper for each program they attend. If medical problems occur, the
camps of Crossways use local clinics and hospitals to treat medical
conditions or accidents. Medical expenses will be billed to you
through these clinics. Crossways does not carry medical coverage for
campers.
Back to FAQ.
Can
my child leave during the week?
We discourage parents/guardian from taking campers away from camp
during the week. Campers miss fun activities and their absence
affects the community that is built between the campers. No camper
is allowed to leave the premises with a visitor (even a relative)
during the week without a signed permission slip from the
parent/guardian who registered the camper. Visits that are
absolutely necessary should be scheduled in advance to avoid
confusion. All visitors MUST check-in with our camp offices.
Also, as a part of the program your child may leave site with staff
for camp activities. At Imago Dei Village and Waypost, campers in
Junior High and up might participate in a 2 hour canoe trip and/or
bicycling on quite country/lake community roads. At Pine Lake, high
school campers might participate in a nursing home visit.
Back to FAQ.
What about medicine and health concerns?
We have trained staff and a health coordinator at each site who
collects all medications at check-in. Medications must be in the
original labeled container.
We stock standard OTC medications for cold symptoms, minor aches and
pains, etc. Do not pack these medications for 'just in case'. Even
these medications will need to be left in the health office under
lock and key. If your child is experiencing symptoms that you
expect will last more than a day or so please bring the medications
you would like administered along with dosage information.
Back to FAQ.
How is Crossways responding to H1N1
concerns?
This summer each camper and present parent will be asked if they
have a fever, a sore throat or a cough. They will also be asked
if they’ve been exposed to someone with these symptoms. If
anyone answers "yes" to fever AND one or two of the other
symptoms we will ask that the child stay at home because of an
influenza-like illness.
If anyone in your family has a fever and a sore throat or cough
we recommend that your camper does not attend camp. Please call
our office to discuss moving to another week or delayed arrival.
Current recommendation is that children remain home for seven
days after symptoms start, even if the child is no longer ill.
If your child is still sick after seven days, keep your child at
home until well for 24 hours. If you have questions about your
child's health or symptoms, call your healthcare provider.
If your child has been diagnosed by a healthcare provider with a
different disease – such as strep – follow your healthcare
provider's recommendation. Call our office at 920-882-0023 to
discuss program participation options.
Back to FAQ.
What
if my child has a food allergy or other special medical need?
Campers are fed balanced meals and a salad bar and sandwiches are
available at almost every meal. Food allergies are on the rise. Our
food service staff are very familiar with many food allergies. If
your child is allergic to peanuts, allergic to milk or is a
vegetarian please list that on your registration. If your child has
a more restricting allergy like gluten please call the camp 1-2
weeks before their week of camp to discuss their particular needs.
If your child has special medical needs or assistance please
call the camp office 1-2 weeks before your child will be attending
to discuss their particular needs.
Back to FAQ.
What if
my child gets homesick at camp?
Homesickness is common but can also be prevented. Your influence on
your child’s experience starts well before you arrive at camp. Speak
of how exciting camp will be, how much fun you’re sure they will
have, and how proud you are of them for trying something new.
Please do not tell your child they can call home at
any time.
Our staff are excellent in handling these situations, knowing that
campers are most likely to feel a longing for home during mealtimes
and just before bed. Our staff takes intentional measures to keep
campers well occupied at these times. We’ve found it much more
successful to work with your child to acknowledge that their
feelings are normal and to provide support for them as they
participate in the healthy Christian community. Should we have
extended problems beyond normal fears, the Camp Director will call
you to share our experiences and ask for your input.
Back to FAQ.
Can my
child bring a cell phone?
Cell phones are not allowed at camp. The success of your child's
camp experience is largely built on the fact that individuals come
to camp, away from the demands and distractions of the outside
world, to build an intentional Christian community. Cell phones and
calls from outside the community prove to be a distraction, and
often, campers do not focus their energy and attention on building
community, but on outside influences. In the event of an emergency
or problem at camp, the camp director will contact parents.
If you have an emergency that requires you to speak with camp staff
immediately, call the camp phone number. In the event no one
answers, please leave a message.
